The Westchester County Department of Health is issuing a rabies alert to residents who may have had contact with a rabid stray cat in Ossining, near James Street on or before Tuesday, July 2.
The rabid cat was a grey adult that was picked up on Tuesday by a resident and brought to the local animal shelter, where it was observed to be sick. The resident was not bitten or scratched and did not need preventive treatment for rabies.
